Lyzbeth Shai is a student at UMass Amherst. She is also a Transwoman, and these identities collide and interact with each other in complicated ways. Trans people find few places in this world that are truly accepting of their identities. UMass is not one of those few places. Not only are the social interactions difficult for Lyz, but so are the logistics of being a trans person on campus. Filling out paper work without legally changing her gender and name is complicated. For example, which bathroom should she use? Will people use the correct pronoun, and name when referring to her? Click here to see an audio slideshow about Lyz.
